Veterinary ER Technician or Assistant (Part-time Days)

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care Support: Assist the veterinary team in providing compassionate and efficient care to emergency patients. This includes assisting with patient restraint, obtaining vital signs, and providing comfort measures.
  • Equipment and Supply Preparation: Prepare and organize equipment, supplies, and medications required for emergency procedures and treatments.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized emergency treatment area, including cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, changing bedding, and restocking supplies.
  • Diagnostic Support: Assist with diagnostic procedures, such as radiography, laboratory tests, and sample collection, under the guidance of the veterinary team.
  • Treatment Assistance: Aid the veterinary team in administering treatments, medications, and intravenous fluids as directed.
  • Recordkeeping: Accurately and promptly document patient information, treatments, and observations in medical records.
  • Client Communication: Provide courteous and empathetic communication to pet owners, answering general inquiries, relaying messages, and providing updates on patient care as directed by the veterinary team.
  • Facility Assistance: Support other departments or areas of the hospital as needed, contributing to the smooth operation of the veterinary facility.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a veterinary emergency or critical care setting.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of veterinary emergency procedures, patient handling, and basic medical terminology.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with the veterinary team and pet owners in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Compassion and Empathy: Demonstrated care and empathy for canine and feline patients, providing comfort and reassurance to patients in distress.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to handle physically demanding aspects of the job, including lifting, restraining, and assisting with the transportation of patients.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong observational skills and attention to detail to accurately report patient behavior and condition to the veterinary team.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
