Kennel Technician

Office: Wilson Veterinary Hospital
Location: Elm City, NC

Wilson Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Kennel Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a desire to provide the highest quality of care to our patients.

The Kennel Technician will be responsible for providing basic care to our hospitalized and boarded pets. This includes feeding, walking, medicating, and monitoring their overall health and well-being. The Kennel Technician will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients and clients.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Feed and medicate pets in accordance with veterinarian's orders.
  • Walk and exercise pets
  • Monitor pets' behavior and overall health status
  • Provide basic grooming services such as bathing, brushing, and nail trimming.
  • Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and common areas.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and notify management when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with procedures as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients, including answering questions and providing updates on their pets' status.
  • Follow all hospital policies and procedures, including those related to safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience working with animals, preferably in a veterinary setting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime as needed
  • Must be comfortable handling a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, and exotics

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an environment with potential exposure to animal hair, dander, and bodily fluids.
