Veterinary Technician or Assistant Duties:
- Client communication and education
- Triaging patients including basic injury/illness assessment, gathering patient information, and taking vital signs.
- Assisting with surgical procedures and patient monitoring
- Place peripheral and central catheters.
- Restrain patients for exams and treatments.
- Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids.
- Maintain urinary catheters.
- Bandage removal and application
- Perform suture and drain removal and basic wound cleaning and care
- Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs.
- Administer medications and dispensing controlled drugs
- Patient monitoring and treatments
- In-house laboratory testing
- Medication calculation and administration
- Other duties as assigned
Veterinary Technician or Assistant Skills/Abilities
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, and unpleasant odors.
- Ability to always communicate professionally and effectively and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged / challenging situations.
- Must possess patience and empathy to address client concerns.
- Ability to work effectively with imaging equipment, veterinary medical equipment, computers, and electronics.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
Veterinary Technician or Assistant Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift patients up to 40lbs throughout the workday with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to frequently lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push and squat
Education and Experience:
This position requires at least one year of veterinary experience as an assistant or technician.
